Countryside Stewardship

The Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier (CSHT) scheme, supports land management for environmental benefits and climate change mitigation. The scheme is designed to pay farmers and land managers to protect, restore, and enhance the environment.

This aligns with a broader push for increased investment in nature-friendly farming to support long-term food security.

Natural Capital and Resource Management

A natural capital assessment provides a structured approach to evaluating the current condition of natural assets across a landscape, enabling land managers to make informed decisions that both protect the rural environment and unlock new income opportunities. Central to this process is the development of a natural capital baseline, which captures the quantity and quality of environmental resources such as soil, water, woodland, and biodiversity. By using precision technologies to assess individual land parcels, landowners gain a clear picture of the benefits their land currently delivers, such as carbon storage, flood mitigation, or wildlife habitat, as well as its potential to provide even greater value to both society and the environment.

This data-driven insight offers a practical foundation for shaping long-term, sustainable land management strategies. Whether the goal is to access emerging environmental markets, enhance ecosystem services, or meet regulatory and stewardship requirements, a natural capital assessment equips land managers with the tools to align environmental responsibility with economic opportunity—supporting resilience and sustainability across the rural landscape.
